Annie Sciolla

Dr. Annie Sciolla, known as a cross-trained hybrid singer, an accomplished and respected vocalist specializing in crossover technique in classical to jazz and contemporary commercial music styles and vocal pedagogy. She made her solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and other solo artist engagements with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Singers, Relâche Music Group, and the Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia. She has enjoyed roles in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess at the Schubert Theater. Other performances include The Voices of the Pops and the Philly Pops Orchestra Encore Series including performances at the Kimmel center, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Chaddsford Winery Jazz Festival, Jazz at the Springs, Berks County Jazz Festival, and the COTA Festival at the Deer Head Inn.With appearances on numerous albums such as world-renowned jazz organist Joey DeFrancesco’s album Never Can Say Goodbye, the Music of Michael Jackson, High Note Record label, which was GRAMMY® nominated for “Best Jazz Contemporary Album” in 2011, Annie has extensive experience as a recording studio musician. Her voice appears on the soundtrack of Steve Guttenberg’s film production P.S. Your Cat Is Dead an underground film sensation after having been presented during the Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, now a TCM, Turner Classic Movie. Her debut album Jerome Kern-Lost Treasures on the Centaur Record label was described as a “total delight” by Billboard Magazine. Her 2019 release and sole arrangements of songs on the album Soul Full Snapshot, to Joni (the music of Joni Mitchell) on Vectordisc Records continues to receive rave reviews. A solo jazz album Diva Free Zone is due to be released this year on Vectordisc Records. Besides having served 2 terms as a voting member on the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy for the GRAMMYs® Annie has provided years of volunteer service to GRAMMY®- In the Schools presenting workshops and masterclasses in jazz vocals and stylings to the underserved Philadelphia area Middle and High schools. Other professional volunteer work includes Adjudicator for the Miss New Jersey Pageant, Atlantic City, NJ, and Adjudicator for Miss America Outstanding Teen, (MAOTeen) in Orlando FL. Annie holds a Master’s Degree in Classical Voice Performance under the tutelage of baritone Randall Scarlata. She continues to perform regularly in both jazz and classical idioms and loves being on the music faculty here at Rowan University.
