Jon Thompson is a multi-instrumentalist, saxophonist, guitarist, woodwind player, and vocalist whose musicianship has been a defining part of the tri-state music scene for more than 25 years. A graduate of Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music, Jon is an active freelance saxophonist who moves fluidly between jazz, rock, pop, and other musical traditions.

Jon is the co-leader of Channel Collective, a contemporary jazz project that brings together some of Philadelphia’s finest jazz musicians. The collective has released five albums and six singles to date and regularly curates high-caliber jazz performances at Sperlak Sculpture Gardens in Cape May County, New Jersey. Through Channel Collective, Jon has helped create a platform for both established and emerging jazz artists while contributing to the region’s vibrant live music community.

In addition to his work with Channel Collective, Jon performs regularly with his own jazz quartet and trio at venues throughout New Jersey and Philadelphia. His playing is characterized by a distinctive balance of lyricism, warmth, and intensity. His saxophone sound occupies a space between the ethereal elegance of Stan Getz and the rich, soulful power of Stanley Turrentine—expressive and atmospheric, yet grounded with a commanding presence.

Whether performing in an intimate jazz setting or as part of a larger ensemble, Jon brings decades of experience, versatility, and a deep commitment to the art of live performance.
